A great way to position yourself for a promotion is by offering to assume some extra tasks or projects. While this might not happen immediately, it will certainly set the wheels in motion for your selection for other work when the need arises.

— If you see a need – don’t ask. Just jump right in and take on the work. Your efforts will not go unnoticed and this will likely come back with positive praise and perhaps an untimely increase in responsibility and pay.

— Keep track of the increased work that you do. When the opportunity presents itself (it always does) you can point out to your supervisor the areas in which you have helped the company.
